It is estimated that over 140 million cell phones are discarded every year in the United States and of these around 500,000 of them will be discarded today. While the study does not indicate exactly why the phones are discarded in the first place, one fact still remains: that it causes too much pollution. If you have a broken iPhone you can do your part to save the earth and even make some money while you are at it too.

The iPhone fever swept the world in June of 2007, and ever since that fateful day millions of iPhone sets of each generation (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and the new iPhone 4G) have been churned out and grabbed by customers. One can only imagine what has happened to the older phones as the newer versions came out to replace the earlier once. And one can also only imagine the amount of pollution that has been caused by these phones.

The good news is - all hope isn't lost. There is a way where each and every owner of a broken iPhone can help fight pollution - by selling the iPhone. Yes, that's right; there are actual online businesses that offer ...
... cold hard cash for an iPhone that is so broken up that it would take some real CSI investigation to prove that it was actually an iPhone to begin with.

These sites not only help in conservation by stopping the iPhones from going into the local landfill and taking millennia to totally breakdown, they encourage more iPhone users to opt for recycling first and throwing it away second, instinctively. And of course, it lets the owner of the phone recoup some of his cash; and in these economically troubled times, who wouldn't want to earn a little extra cash?

The businesses or companies, iPhones Into Cash is one good example, that buy these phones use them in one of three ways depending on the extent of the damage of the iPhone. If it is still in working condition, it is refurbished and sold on to other people in other countries who would want the phones. If slightly damaged, then repair is done to restore it to its original working condition and then sold. But, if it is totally wrecked, there is still demand out there for spare parts for other iPhones. The business of recycling cell phones, iPhone or otherwise, is a profitable business for everyone involved. The prices may vary from iPhone to iPhone depending on the damage to the phone and its working condition - but it still pays!
