India is undoubtedly rapidly climbing the ladder of success and admirable growth. Alongside, there are some burning issues, which if not given immediate attention, can become major obstacles in this path. Poverty, corruption, illiteracy, casteism, terrorism and the like, are evils that are on the burning forefront, which can be addressed only with the mobilization of the youth

The youth of today have freed their minds from the shackles of such evils and endeavor to tackle these and make the country move towards more unity and integration. Since they are the young blood of the nation, with fresh mind and newer ideas which can make a difference, there is a need to provide a platform for them to showcase their potential as well as get credibility for the same.

Taking a step in this direction, the MAEER'S MIT School of Government is organizing the first Indian parliament of student leaders from Jan 12th to 14th, 2011 at the MIT Campus in Pune, which will have eleven sessions.

... cause of nation building. It also aims to act as a catalyst assisting the national and international bodies involved in preparing policies related to the development of the youth.

This event gives an opportunity to participants to have an interaction with eminent personalities from the field of politics, spirituality, entertainment, environment, media, social activists and sports. They can put forth their ideas and enforce their thoughts on the dais amidst several listeners. This is a breeding ground for enthusiasts who are committed to make a change and lead the society.

This event will be a host to General and Joint Secretaries and representatives from around 10,000 colleges across the country. To assure that these ideas will be taken into consideration there are various initiatives that have been thought of. All the resolutions would be compiled as Declaration of Student Parliament and will be submitted to the Prime Minister of India, UNESCO ( Paris) , Ministry of Youth Affairs, and Central and State Government. The speeches delivered would also be recorded and compiled to be used for propagation. The student delegates participating in this event would become the alumni of this Student Leadership Parliament.

Some of the resolutions include providing scholarship/stipend to students at graduation and post-graduation level belonging to economically weaker sections, opening up 200 vocational training institutes in Naxalite affected districts of India, providing free hostel facility at graduation and post graduation level for the students belonging to economically weaker sections, making the curriculum more practical and job oriented and indulging in activities to protect the environment.

As Shri. Kapil Sibal , Minister of Human Resource Development, rightly said the said Parliament is an innovative venture for the young minds, facilitating leadership skills, thinking power and increasing awareness on issues of national importance amongst young people. This is an encouragement and a motivation to drive the youth towards making a change, because after all, the power to bring change, lies with the young generation, because they have both physical and mental strength, and with the right guidance can make India one of the most successful and fast growing countries.
