Home Remedies For Back Pain
1. 1. Dont lie around.
Although your first instinct might be to rest the area, resist the urge to remain sedentary for too long. This will cause stiffness and additional pain. So, get up and get active †at least a little bit. Try low impact exercise like walking, swimming or yoga to keep your blood pumping. If you just cant stand it, and you need to lie down, lay flat on your back with a pillow or two under your knees for proper alignment. And, get up and walk around as often as you can to prevent your muscles from becoming weak and stiff.
2. 2. Hot and Cold.
If an injury has occurred, its important to ice the area as soon as possible to halt the swelling process. Use a cold compress or even a bag of frozen vegetables to help prevent swelling. Once you have that under control, apply heat to relax the area and help increase blood flow. A hot bath or a heating pad can often do the trick. An infrared heating pad will do an even better job. The technology allows heat to travel safely into the back muscles much more deeply than heat from a typical pad can. To get your own infrared heating ...

3. 3.Take 2 Aspirin and call me in the morning.
Over the counter pain relievers can often be very helpful at relieving back pain, particularly NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like Aleve and Ibuprofen are very effective at reducing swelling and relieving pain. However, they should be taken in moderation and are not a permanent solution for ongoing back pain. They can cause a whole host of side effects that include ulcers and liver damage. So, take them in moderation.
4. 4. Firm up.
Get a firmer mattress. That will help support your back better while youre sleeping. If a new mattress isnt in your budget right now, try putting a piece of plywood between the box spring and the mattress. That will offer you some support, and a temporary solution.
5. 5. Get the massage? Try getting a massage.
Even better, if you have a willing spouse or friend, ask them to do it for you. Use mint oil or something fragrant that will help you to relax even further. The massage will help relax tense muscles and soothe pain away, while also helping to promote healing by increasing blood flow to the area.
6. 6. Get some support.
Use a seat cushion to help support your back when sitting. This will not only help prevent future back pain, but will help relieve strain on a tense back to eliminate pain. The Healthy Back Institute has a large selection of back support cushions to choose from.
