‘Medevac' is a short-term used for ‘medical evacuation', a concept that assumed significance during the World War II. Most militarily advanced countries during those times maintained specialised medevac units that helped evacuate injured soldiers to safe zones using helicopters or aircraft.

In the past few decades, air transport has become significantly more affordable and even civilian populace has access to medevac services now. This has resulted in many Governmental and private organisations offering helicopter-based medevac and casevac services to the public. ‘Casevac' refers to ‘casualty evacuation' and the only difference is that casevac can be required even in non-medical emergency situations.

There are certain regions that have an increased dependence on helicopter-based medevac services. The Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal, for instance, is frequented by Hindu pilgrims who throng to the various locations of religious significance in Nepal. And considering the inhospitable geographic conditions in the Nepal Mountains, no other help can reach faster than an air-borne medevac service. As ...
... a result, there are various agencies offering helicopter medevac and casevac services in Nepal.

In fact, if you are heading for travel to such locations, it is advisable to keep the contact information of such services handy, as you never know when you may require them. In situations of medical emergency, even a minute's delay can make the difference between life and death.

The helicopters used in medevac operations are not ordinary helicopters. They have almost all facilities as seen in a conventional ambulance, such as oxygen supply, glucose, stretchers, etc. Although it is mandatory to have paramedical staff in medevac helicopters, some operators even provide a doctor-on-board.

However, before you engage any medevac or air-ambulance service, please ensure to check their credentials. Make sure that the company is registered with the relevant aviation authority. It is also better if you can seek specific references as well.

Medevac services literally act like saviours in the sky in situations of emergency, as helicopters can reach even the toughest locations in minimal time.
