Recently, Interpol reported that banks and financial institutions in the Gulf region have low e-security. Bank Customers in the Gulf region have repeatedly been victims of attacks from cyber criminals. Primary motivation behind the cyber-attacks includes fraud, defamation and extortion. Experts opine lack of awareness on the threats in the cyber space and inadequate monitoring as some of the reasons for low level of e-security among banks in the Gulf region.

Interpol authorities suggest on the need for regular online monitoring to counter the menace of cybercrime faced by Gulf banks. Many banks, financial institutions and other business organizations make use of the services of professionals such as ... Many countries are facing shortage of cyber security experts. Cybercriminals use sophisticated techniques such as phishing for enticing legitimate bank customers to reveal confidential information. For instance, offenders send well-crafted phishing email to bank customers asking them on a seemingly legitimate but link. When unsuspecting users click on the fake link, they are redirected to a site similar to the legitimate banking site and their authentication details are compromised.

Ethical hackers conduct tests in a way that do not result in any damage to the IT infrastructure of the organization. The tests results in minimum disruption of activities. The purpose of the tests is to pre-empt hackers in detecting vulnerabilities and initiating mitigating action. The security professionals also suggest remedial measures for the vulnerabilities.
