Knowledge Is Adventure

The "dot.com" bubble burst that occurred almost a decade ago has brought almost everything from the vast environment around us to just a small screen; kids' activities being one of these.
Imparting knowledge and education to kids is not an easy task as they need everything to be very interesting and tend to get bore quite easily but online educational games have revolutionized the learning process.
Be it Mathematics, Arts, Geography, English or Science; there are various activities in the form of online games to teach kids their respective subjects.
The traditional forms of teaching like making flashcards, using paper maps, drawing grids etc. are not only difficult to make and time consuming but are also not so appealing to the kids. On the other hand, online games range from simple text based games to games involving complex audio-visual graphics. These are quite fascinating and appeal to the kids and become available just on the click of mouse. While the traditional form of education becomes repetitive and boring, online education adds variety and fun to the subject. These can be in the form of quizzes, ...
... stories, puzzles etc.
There are various sites available on the internet that display hundreds of these games; knowledgeadventure.com being just one of these.
Like every other thing, online games have their own merits and demerits.
Some of the benefits of online educational games are:
1. Increases ability of children to operate computer.
2. Increases the emotional intellect of kids.
3. Studies become interesting and fun rather than a burden.
4. Assists in academic endeavors of the child like making projects etc.
5. Increases confidence and instills a sense of accomplishment upon completing small goals step by step.
6. Are more challenging and brain storming.
Some disadvantages of online educational games are:
1. Kids tend to get habituated and addicted to the computer.
2. They get less time to spend with their family members.
3. They do not learn how to interact and share with others.
4. These tend to cause both physical and mental strain on children.
5. Sometimes kids might deviate from their studies to negative or unwanted topics.
6. They tend to become aloof and less social.
While online educational programs have its own merits and demerits; the merits can be outstanding compared to the demerits if parents actively involve themselves with their kids. If they keep a control over their kids by setting a time limit or be vigilant towards their activities, then online educational games can prove to be a very useful tool for children.
