The National Banner Of Spain
Spain is one of my favorite places to visit. During my earlier years, we would travel down to southern Spain to visit family and friends, in places such as Malaga and Marbella. Spain flags were and are displayed from all kinds of objects, including tall flag poles and such.
The colors that are displayed on the Spain flags, or the national flag of Spain, are red (twice) and yellow. Red is displayed on two of the three horizontal bands, each equally sized and display above and below the center band, which is colored yellow. Unlike other flags of Europe, the Spain flag only has two equally sized stripes.
In comparison to other flags of Europe, the Spanish flag is considered one of the older national flags. Its origin dates back to the late years of the 18th century, when the current banner was flown as a naval ensign, attached to flag poles and such on navy vessels. At the time, the design was chosen by Charles 3 among twelve different flags, designed by Antonio Valdes y Bazan. It was displayed by the Spanish navy some 5 decades until 1843, when it was officially adopted as the national flag of Spain.
Today, ...
... the Kingdom of Spain is considered the 51st-largest country in the world in terms of square mileage. Being slightly smaller than the Republic of France, but slightly larger that the State of California. Interestingly, the "Teide" is the highest mountain in Spain and the 3rd largest volcano in the world, located on the one of the Canary Islands; Tenerife, off the west-coast of Africa.
Interestingly, throughout the centuries the design of this banner has remained "untouched," with the exception of a time period referred to as the "Second Republic," which started in 1931 and ended in 1939. Minor changes were made and included the coat of arms.
The King of Spain every so often will fly his "Royal Standard' from a royal flag pole. Unlike the other Spanish flags, this flag displays the coat of arms of the King in the center of a dark-blue-ish colored field or background. The square flag is commonly from a flagpole at the official residence of the king, also officially known as the "Palacia de la Zarzuela" and other designated places.
