Ooty Tourist Places And Hill Station Travel Guide

Ooty (Udhagamandalam) is popularly known as the "Queen of hill stations" among the tourist circuits. It is the capital of Nilgiri district. There are large number of hills in the Nilgiri range which varies between 2280 and 2290 meters. Doddabetta is the highest peak which is situated at the height of 2623 meters.
Ooty is famous for the establishment of numerous tea estates. Passengers going to visit Ooty are greeted with the Lofty mountains, dense forest, sprawling grasslands and miles and miles of tea gardens.

By Rail
Mettupalayam is 47 km from Ooty and it is directly connected to Coimbatore and Chennai. Ooty is on the narrow gauge railway and it is connected to Mettupalayam. Ooty is connected with Mettupalayam and Coonoor with the famous toy train.
By Road

Botanical Garden: They lie on the lower slopes of Dodabetta peak, which is the highest peak in Ooty. It is the major tourist attraction.
Government Museum: It has items of tribal objects, district's ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu.
Hills and Views: Popularly known as the "Queen of hill stations".
Kalhatty Falls: It is located on the Kalhatty slopes at about 13-km from Udhagamandalam on the Udhagamandalam - Mysore Kalhatty ghat road.
Kandal Cross Shrine: It is a Roman Catholic Shrine which is considered as the Jerusalem of the East.
Mini Garden and Rose Garden: The rose garden is situated about 3-4 km away from Charing Cross and the Mini garden is also situated where the children amusement park is housed on the way to the boathouse.
Ooty Lake: The beautiful lake of the Ooty is a favorite haunt of tourists which was constructed in the year 1825.
Some other attractions of the Ooty are Tea and Tourism Festival, Summer Festival, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park etc.
