Condensing Boilers Explained
Compared to older boilers condensing boilers are far more efficient and save you money running them. This is because they use wasted gases and turn this back into heat. With a normal boiler any wasted gas is ejected via the flue which is really the fancy word for the chimney of the boiler. This heat is wasted and lost forever. With a condensing boiler this wasted heat is then taken to another heat exchanger and turned back into heat. Recycling at its best!
Condensing boilers are SEBBUK 'A' rated which means they are more than 90% efficient. One way of describing this best is by saying by with condensing boilers 90p out over every £1 you spend on fuel is effectively used for your heating and hot water. Older boilers be as little as 60% efficient ('G' rated) which means 40p is being thrown away on every pound you spend on fuel. With these types of boilers you are looking at saving around £275 a year in running cost and a Co2 saving of around 1405kg.
Having an efficient boiler will also help when you come to sell your home. The EPC which stands for Energy Performance Certificate is part of ...
... the HIP home information pack which everyone selling a home needs to acquire. Basically the EPC rates how efficient your home is which gives potential buyers an idea of how green or how costly running the home would be. If you have a high efficiency condensing boiler in your home, this will improve your home's rating and improve your chances of selling it.
A condensing boiler can be a combi boiler or a system or open vent boiler, and are easily installed in homes where there is already a heating system with radiators in place. Working out what type of boiler to get will depend on the size of your home. If you have a small 2 or 3 bed roomed house or smaller then a combi boiler would be suitable. Combi boilers are more suited to homes where there is just one bathroom. For larger homes with more than one bathroom a system boiler would be better suited.
Asking a boiler installation company what is best suited your needs would be the best option. Ensuring you get advice from experts and not cowboy boilers is a must. With important appliances' which use dangerous fuel such as gas it's most important you get a large well known company to advice and install. Poorly installed heating systems can cause serious damage to your home and more importantly your family. You can't put a price on the welfare of your family so ensure anyone looking on working on gas is registered at the relevant organisations. With gas, engineers need to be on the Gas Safe Register.
