Common poker tournaments characteristics:
- The main purpose of playing in poker tournaments is to win all the opponents chips present at the poker table. Only after someone gathers all the chips, the game is over.
- Even if you get in the tournament with a very small amount of money (chips) you can win a substantial prize at the end of the game, because the tournament's format is progressive, divided on stages.
- Though you may get very excited knowing this, to get to win a big amount of money you have to get into the final stage of the poker tournament, near the leader. In ...
... order to get there, you have to win an established number of consequent games.

The type of poker tournament and the total number of participants are the main two factors that influence the establishment of the consecutive number of games you need to win to reach on the leader board and have a chance in winning the jackpot.
- The number of chips is the same for all players at the begging of the tournament, so each player has the same odds of winning.
- In the case of a tournament, the blinds are changing after a while.

The blinds change progressively in order to encourage players to take action and to speed up the tournament. This is another important difference between poker tournaments and regular poker games played in online rooms, where the blinds remain the same irrespective of the situation.
- To participate in a poker tournament you have to pay the buy-in and the entry fee. This entry fee consist in an approximately 10% of the prize pool fee and is deducted by the house when you sign in.
- If the number of players exceeds 10 in the tournament, the game will take place at more tables in the same time. Of course, you can only play poker on one table at a time.
- The players flow at the tables depends of the number of the participants. Progressing through the game you may have the chance to be randomly moved at different tables and have different opponents.
