Television became such a normal part of our daily routine that we don't even think much about the role of this device in our lives and about how it ended up in our living rooms. It was the invention of the radio that finally gave the scientists the push and technology that they needed to make TV real. Eventually TV made a long path from small devices to ultra-modern hi-tech sets that offer additional functionality and even can be used as the center of the house. But first let's see how it all began.

The idea of transferring moving pictures was obvious for a long time, but naturally there was a serious technological barrier. It was the invention of the radio that gave a good push to the evolution the TV and basically showed the way. The TV was not invented instantly. There were at least dozen of different scientists from USA to Russia that experimented with transferring images over distance. What happened next is history, after WWII the telly became colored and cheap which allowed it to spread rapidly and eventually become a natural thing in every house. As for the most recent developments in the area of television these are the 3D television, Interactive TV and Digital TV.

3D Television
3D TV's are the most promising yet the most complicated thing today. The biggest problem is the 3D picture itself. The idea of such TV is to create a 3D image without using the special goggles, but in this case the problem is in showing the image in such way that the viewer will experience 3D from any position in front of the TV. Currently this problem is only partly solved.

Interactive TV
Another promising thing is the so called interactive TV. It is a completely new type of broadcasting where the viewer is able to interact with the picture live. For example pausing the broadcasting, skipping the ads, recording the program and getting additional information vie the return channel. Literally the TV of tomorrow! Currently this technology is widely implemented, but it still needs some time to really become common and global.

Digital TV
Digital TV is actually just a new means of broadcasting and not a new type of television. Hundreds of countries today switch over to digital broadcasting. This of course happens not so fast and is complicated, but switching over to digital has lots of bonuses. First of all the picture is better and the broadcasting is more stable. Second digital broadcasting allows to create a return channel that can be used to send back info from the viewer and opens a lot of new possibilities.
