Rio De Janeiro - Five Hidden Secrets

In this article we are not going to talk about things you already know about Rio de Janeiro. We are going to share five well-kept secrets that make this city even greater than it already is. Stay tuned and grab a piece of paper to note these down as we assure you that are worth taking into consideration on your next trip to Rio.
1. Rock Climbing
Yes, you can do rock climbing in Rio de Janeiro, although many of you wouldn't have thought Rio as a destination to practice this extreme sport not in a million years. If you are interested, you will have two options; the first one would be urban climbing around Rio while the other is a more proper method, in the Tijuca Forest. However, the first one is where Rio got its status as a rock climbing destination. The city's biggest climb is without any doubt Sugarloaf - one of Rio's most popular attractions. By climbing it, you will be able to enjoy some of the most magnificent views of Ipanema, Copacabana and Flamengo's beaches. It is advisable to do the climbing around sunset when the nightlife starts to become more active and the illuminating of the beach is more spectacular.
2. Plano ...
... B
You haven't heard about Plano B? Too bad, as it is one of the very few places in the city where international DJs bring an interesting mixture of techno, dub and electronic music every single week. You can get your beer from there or if you prefer, from any of the bars that are in Lapa. If you did not know, Plano B is a recording store during the day and on the quieter weekday nights, they show various movies.
3. Ice cream
If you like eating ice cream like we do, then Rio de Janeiro is the place to be as you will find it on almost every corner of the city in a bundle of assortments like passionfruit, acai or mango, just to name a few. Some of them are capable of offering very inventive flavours, while other will do home deliveries. We recommend that you buy frozen yoghurt from stores like the Yogoberry. If you are on a diet, get yourself a non-fat one, as it is surprisingly good.
4. The Maze
Tavares Basto is situated on top of a hill, right next to Botafogo/Catete where The Maze (a guesthouse/club) takes center stage. We recommend that you visit it on the first Friday of the month when they organize the Jazz Night. If you are not interested in this, maybe the incredible views from the terrace, from where you can see Sugarloaf, the Copacabana beach or Christ will convince you.
5. Samba Schools
You do not have to go to Rio de Janeiro when the Carnival takes place in order to enjoy the fascinating spectacles of the samba schools. These schools will start practicing for the next year event, as soon as the Carnival ends. You will have the possibility to see them practice at very affordable prices and watch how their shows get more and more elaborate as the next edition approaches.
As you can see, there are a lot more to the city than you already know. You have enough reasons to visit the city, without doing the things that most people do. Planning a vacation to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil might be the wisest choice you have ever made.
