Georgia Senior Health Insurance Information Program
Your senior loved one may find it hard to get a private insurance plan if they have a disease or health problem. The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan is available in 23 states and District of Columbia. This plan allows Americans who are living with cancers, diabetes, aging diseases, and heart diseases an opportunity to obtain senior healthcare coverage. In Georgia, many seniors are facing paying the costs of senior care. Senior care services and senior care housing can be quite expensive, and many seniors rely on the Georgia Senior Health Insurance Program. As of July 1st 2010, Georgia seniors are able to take advantage of newly implemented health care insurance plans.
The pre-existing condition insurance plan in Georgia is available to Georgia residents who have a pre-existing health problem and require health care services, making health care insurance to seniors with pre-existing conditions. This Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan, run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will cover health benefits including: primary and specialty care, hospital care services, and prescription drugs to help ...
... pay for care. The Plan does not charge recipients a higher premium because of any medical condition, and does not base the eligibility of the plan on income.
Seniors who are interested in the pre-existing medical condition plan, must be a citizen or national of the U.S., must have been uninsured for at least six months before they apply, and must have had issues getting insurance in the past due to pre-existing medical conditions. The premium rates in Georgia are by age. Ages 0-34, $323; Ages 35-44, $387; Ages 45-54, $495; Ages 55 , $688. In addition to the monthly premium, the person must pay a $2,500 deductible for covered benefits, except for preventative services, $25 co-payment for doctor visits, and $4-$30 for prescription drugs, as well as 20% of costs that are not covered. You will not have to pay more than $5,950 per year out-of-pocket. Therefore, it will probably cost much less to be insured by the new governmental pre-existing health condition insurance plan than paying for insurance through a private insurer. Seniors will want to talk with their geriatric care manager to see if they qualify for the new plan, and if there is any other plans they may consider in the future.
In 2011, Americans can choose a plan that works for themselves and their families. The standard plan, the extended plan, or the health savings account option. There will even be a child-only rate available for children 0-18 years old. These new provisions, and new healthcare plans, will help seniors and all people in the United States. Thankfully, in the year 2014, all Americans will be able to have access to affordable healthcare coverage regardless of their health issues. Insurers will be prohibited from denying anyone healthcare because of pre-existing health problems.
Healthcare changes affect all of us, and seniors with medical conditions will be able to receive the healthcare services they need and deserve. By 2014, Americans will have the satisfaction of receiving proper healthcare in the United States. No more worries that your diabetic senior loved one will not receive their insulin shots or check-ups. This is quite a relief for seniors and their family members.
