Interesting Facts: The History Of Central Heating

A lot of our homes nowadays use several heating methods and it would be interesting to know the history of central heating. But what exactly is central heating? It is a method of providing heat or warmth to an entire house or building from a single source. This is very common in countries where it's cold most of the time, for instance, in Russia or in some parts of Europe.
When winter is fast approaching and the nights turn colder, a lot of Europeans find comfort in the central heating installed in their homes. Most homes nowadays have built in central heating so it is not as hard as it used to be. Homes in different parts of the world had to build up fireplaces and only the privileged had an older form of central heating which made use of a gas boiler.
And while we're at it, why not go ahead and discuss the real history of it all? It all started with the Romans, who had furnaces in their homes that helped move warm air into the spaces that can be found under the floors of their homes or in some cases, in between walls and even in fireplaces. The Romans were known for their love ...
... of luxury, and they always wanted their homes warm and comfortable. They had slaves who attended to these furnaces and who kept them burning at all times. This was the first method of central heating.
And you know what? It didn't stop at the Romans. Back in ancient Korea, they had a central heating process called ondol. This was done by utilizing the excess warmth that the stoves for cooking had given off. This all happened around 37 BC. Around 668 AD, some Muslims came to Korea to introduce a similar heating process used by the Romans. This was then used by most Muslims around the world.
In Central Europe around the 13th century, Cistercian monks introduced central heating through furnaces fueled by wood in European homes. But the first people who started designing the modern central heating process were the Russians in the year 1700. These were hydrologically based, and soon enough, homes in Sweden used water as the sources for their heating.
The person who first installed one of the first modern central heaters was Angier March Perkins. It was said that the governor of the Bank of England during that time asked him to install it in his home so that it was possible to grow grapes in a cold climate. Then came one of the most important inventions in central heating, the radiator, which was invented by Franz San Galli around 1855.
Now you know the history of it all. When the nights feel a little colder than usual, turn on the central heating of your home and thank the people who contributed to its invention. If it weren't for their brilliant minds, we wouldn't be able to enjoy these in life. The history of central heating was quite a long run but let's be thankful that during these modern times, we don't have to suffer during cold nights.
