Breed Description

The Doberman Pinscher is a squarely-shaped working breed. They are muscular and compact, with very sturdy exterior. This medium-sized dog weighs between 75-100 pounds for males, 60-90 pounds for males, and stands between 26-28 inches for males, and 24-26 inches for females.

Coat

Doberman Pinschers have short, smooth, thick, and closefitting coat that comes in red, blue, fawn, black and tank, and black. There are usually rust-colored marks below the tail, above the eyes, on the legs feet, throat, and chest.

Activity

The Doberman Pinscher is highly energetic and possesses immense stamina. Due to that fact, they require to be taken on a long walk or jog on a daily basis.

Temperament

The Doberman Pinscher is fearless, watchful, determined, alert, loyal, and energetic. They are brave and protective, with lifelong loyalty to their family and sensitivity to their master's wishes. Overview

The Doberman Pinscher was originally used as personal guardian and watchdog. They also make a great sheep herder, a gun-dog, and vermin eradicator. Developed by Louis Dobermann, and originated in Germany, this breed is among of the minority named after a real person. This proud and noble breed served during the two World Wars, and was the official battle dog of the U.S. Marine.

Care

The Doberman Pinscher requires daily exercise, running included. They must be groomed a few of times per week with a soft brush or cloth. As puppies, they require firm and consistent handling with knowledgeable training, therefore should be trained by couple of people to foster socialization and reduce the risk of timidity.

Training

Despite their intelligence, the Doberman Pinscher requires extensive training. Their dominant personality calls for early establishment of the alpha dog by the handler. It is more likely that this assertive but not aggressive breed will try to dominate owners that show fear or inferiority towards them. As an energetic breed, they do best with regular chance to run off their pent up energy. They should be socialized at a very early age so that they can be comfortable around strangers.

Some handlers may come upon training issues with Doberman Pinschers because they fear them. It is important that owners and every member of their family handle training with confidence.

The Doberman Pinscher does not require guard dog training, as this may result to overly dominant and aggressive dog. They are generally protective and loyal of their families. But despite their nature, they do not attack unless the situation calls for it.

This muscular, graceful, and elegant Doberman Pinscher is medium-sized. This breed is generally bold, resourceful, courageous, and highly intelligent. One of the popular and most valued breed, they are recognized for their protective nature and deep devotion.
