Some people face frequent heartburn episodes because of digestive disorders or lifestyle related issues. These episodes can be very irritating and disrupt normal life routine, simple remedies can help in getting rid of this situation and avoid its reoccurrence. The excessive presence of acid in the stomach secreted by the gastric glands and regurgitating in the esophagus causes burning sensation and sour burps which may later even starts causing pain in the chest. Bitter taste in the mouth and difficulty in breathing are also felt along with the pain.

Problem of heartburn does not occur due to single reason there are many medical conditions which can attribute for this problem. The most effective treatment is the combination of use of natural remedy to nullify the excess acid and improving eating and sleeping pattern along with healthy lifestyle. Eating spicy and greasy food, sleeping right after the meal, lesser consumption of water, lack of physical activity, stress and remaining hungry or irregular diet are the most common reasons for heartburn or acidity. Sometimes heartburn is also triggered by certain foods which may not be digested well or completely by the digestive system of a particular person to cause the problem. For such issues a food diary can be maintained to identify the foods which cause problems. Two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water is a very good remedy for heartburn, though it appears that in case of excess acid in the stomach drinking vinegar may not be a good idea, but apple cider vinegar contains good acid which helps the body in digesting the refluxing acid to relieve the problem.

Heartburn is caused with the combination of improper gas regulation and excessive acid; sometimes it is the excess gas which causes acid reflux in the esophagus. Drinking a glass of water with two teaspoons of baking soda mixed in it helps in passing gas through burps and can also relieve the problem of heartburn. Chewing fennel seeds after meal, sucking a piece of clove after meal and use of ginger in the food or salad or even chewing a piece of ginger mixed with a pinch of coriander is excellent remedy for heartburn or acidity.

Along with remedies some other precautions help in preventing problem of heartburn effectively. Chewing food properly ideally not swallowing till it is in liquid form is very good habit and helps in avoiding formation of excess acid during digestion. Avoiding spicy food, timely eating habit, avoiding too much alcohol or tea or coffee intake and not lying down immediately after meal are other good habits to avoid heartburn.

Avoiding beans and cauliflower in the diet and cabbage, onion, radish, pepper and cucumber in the raw form also helps as these foods form excess gas during digestion. Fruits like banana, avocado, melon, apple, almonds are good for preventing excessive gas and acid formation which cause acidity and helps in treating the problem effectively. Drinking herbal tea in place of traditional tea not only protects stomach but also repairs the internal lining to promote good digestion.
