Although nothing can say “I love you” like a bouquet of flowers, nothing can say “GET AWAY FROM ME” like pepper spray for defense. This has become a universal tool for self defense around the world and is used by many law enforcement agencies as well as the U.S. Department of Defense.

Using pepper spray for defense can deter, stop, or at least slow down a potential attacker or assailant. It is also used as a riot or crowd control agent and is useful as a self-defense agent to ward off attacks by dogs and bears.

Pepper spray is also referred to as OC gas or OC spray after the effective ingredient Oleoresin Capsicum. Plants in the genus Capsicum produce the chemical compound Oleoresin Capsicum in the fruit (pepper) of the plant. OC is harvested from the pepper by extracting capsicum in a finely ground form. Mixing ethanol with the capsicum extracts capsaicin; once the ethanol evaporates, a waxy resin substance remains which is Oleoresin Capsicum. OC is mixed with liquid emulsifiers to distribute it in a solution of water which can then be sprayed on a potential ...
... assailant.

OC pepper spray is sold and marketed as a safe, non-lethal weapon of defense. However, in rare cases it may be responsible for death as documented by the ACLU of Southern California in a 1995 publication.

The use of pepper spray for defense is regulated in some states with each of these states specifying their own requirements. For example, California requires that the container of pepper spray must be less than 2.5 ounces; in Michigan the spray must contain less than 2% OC; and, in New Jersey non-felons 18 years of age an older can possess no more than .75 ounces.

OC pepper spray has become a replacement for, and in some cases an adjunct to tear gas. Two common tear gases are phenacyl chloride usually called CN and 2-chlorobenzalmalononnitrile usually called CS. Pepper spray, like these two tear gases, is known as a lachrymatory compound. A lachrymatory compound causes eye irritation, pain, tearing, and temporary blindness. In addition, pepper spray also has the potential for causing skin irritation in the form of a burning sensation.

We carry a variety of small sizes and types of canisters that together meet the requirements of most all states. We also offer larger canisters of 4, 8, 9, and 16 ounces and include sprays with varying concentrations such as our 10 or 18% OC sprays. In addition, we offer different types of sprays as well, including fog sprays and stream sprays. Our full line of pepper spray for defense accessories includes leatherette holsters in a variety of colors, visor clips, and key chains. We even offer a handbook on the proper use of pepper spray for defense.

A particularly interesting item we have available for sale is our “stunning” ring. This men’s or women’s ring is a pepper sprayer that can deliver a spray with a range of up to 6 inches. The ring can be refilled for repeated used.

We also offer a triple action spray, which provides a one-two-three punch to a would-be attacker. Our Mace brand triple action spray has three ingredients, OC pepper spray, CN tear gas, and a UV dye. The first two ingredients introduce the one-two punch to an assailant by causing eye tearing, temporary blindness, choking, and coughing etc. The third ingredient, an Ultra Violet (UV) dye can only be seen using an ultra violet light. This is used to mark the individual to increase the probability of identification after being apprehended.
