Pleural thickening? Now claim compensation.

Ever since man realised the importance of asbestos commercially, they have exploited the naturally occurring silicate mineral for numerous years. Over a period of time, as asbestos' commercial importance heightened, more and more people were employed to manufacture asbestos. As the years went by, asbestos manufacture came under the shadow of important occupational hazards. It first came to notice that breathing in asbestos led to a complication termed as asbestosis.

Asbestosis is also known as fibrosis is a lung disease that is caused by exposure to asbestos fibres over a prolonged period of time. Asbestosis leads to the lungs becoming scarred and eventually to asbestos bodies being embedded in the lung tissue causing respiratory complications and increased chances of lung cancer. Asbestosis was then recognized as a high alert occupational hazard and many countries have since gone on to impose a complete ban on the import, manufacture and use of asbestos in their countries.

Apart from asbestosis, exposure to asbestos has led to another lung complication called ...
... as pleural thickening. What is pleural thickening? Pleural Thickening or Diffuse Pleural Thickening can be caused by exposure to asbestos. The asbestos fibres which make their way through the nose or mouth of the person into the lungs, can make their way out to the pleura. The pleura is the two layered membrane surrounding the lungs and asbestos can cause scarring and thickening of the pleural membrane.

There are two cases of pleural thickening - if the areas of thickening are not widespread and are isolated to smaller areas, they are known as pleural plaques and they do not generally cause any symptoms; however, if they cover a large area where they may make breathing difficult, they are known as diffuse pleural thickening.

How does pleural thickening develop? Pleural thickening can develop on one lung or on both lungs and causes the tissue to harden, which in turn prevents the lungs from working efficiently, making the sufferer feel breathless. The pleural membranes are generally protective casing around the lungs. Pleural thickening is by itself a disabling condition but it also proves that the sufferer has been exposed to asbestos in the past which puts them at risk of developing other asbestos related diseases such as asbestosis or mesothelioma. If you have been diagnosed with pleural thickening, you may be able to make a claim for pleural thickening compensation.

Making compensation claims for pleural thickening is easy and can be successful if guided by a solicitor who is an expert in compensation claims. Do look around to find the best solicitor to help you through your claim.
