Black Russian Terrier - Facts You Must Know Before Adopting Black Russian Terrier

The Black Russian Terrier is a rare Russian dog with robust and strong build. More than a medium-sized breed, they are powerful, alert, and stable, weighing between 80-145 pounds and are 25-30 inches tall. Bred solely as police and guard dogs, this dog initially served the Russian military.
Coat
The coat of Black Russian Terrier is 1 1/2-4 inches thick, with a double coat that wraps around the entire body. Their coat is dense, coarse, wiry, bristly and weatherproof. The fur of the medium-haired Black Russian Terrier is wavy, while the short-haired is straight.
Their color is black, or black with some grey hair. But, grey fur must be evenly distributed and not found in patches.
Activity
The Black Russian is highly intelligent. They appreciate going for long walks, playing and romping around. Fascinated with water and snow, this breed would be very happy rolling around in the snow during winter season and playing in the water through spring and summer months. ...

Brave, intelligent, affectionate, gentle with family, though stubborn, this breed is reliable but tends to be destructive when provoked. They are great with children and pets they were reared with. Although some of them may not like non-family dogs with dominant personality. Generally, they do get along with most family pets that are much smaller, less-domineering friends as they are a dominant dog themselves.
Overview
The Black Russian Terrier is a largely built dog with slightly stretched frame known for their efficiency and adaptability to different climates. They are dignified, active, and happiest with a family that is able to give them a lot of tasks to accomplish including obedience, agility training, and games.
Care
Because of their long and thick coat, the Black Russian Terrier requires a lot of grooming needs. Regular brushing and combing is important to keep the coat in great condition. Spraying coat conditioner twice a week on the dog's coat lightly before brushing is recommended as it adds shine, lessens dryness, and removes tangles. Paws should be trimmed regularly to prevent matting, so as the ear ducts to prevent infection. Bathing should be done once a month using a diluted specialty dog shampoo.
Training
The Black Russian Terrier should be trained as puppies due to their dominant and suspicious nature. It is important to socialize them with other animals, and be frequently introduced to people in the public of every ethnicity, sex, and size as to decrease their aloofness and skepticism of strangers. This breed is highly intelligent and determined making them easy to housebreak and behaved on a leash. Excellent around children, there are generally no known issues to be around them while training. They excel in obedience type training and highly responsive to firm but positive reinforcement methods of training.

The Black Russian Terrier is loyal, intelligent, courageous, protective, and reliable. They have balanced and stable temperament with great trainability. This breed is a delightful companion, and a loyal member of the family.
