In the past there were a number of reasons that resulted in the growth of the town's population or even its founding. One of such reasons were the universities. Especially in Europe, numerous towns were founded or became much larger because of a university that was founded there. A university in a city really fuels the town with young energy and can turn a small rural town into a brewing community within few years! Also a city which is centered around a university (like the mentioned Groningen) has a lot of opportunities for people, especially young people who are looking for jobs.

Probably one of the most common student jobs is waiter. There is nothing bad about it, all people eat and therefore this business will be there for a very long time. In case you plan to take such a job make sure that you are familiar with the main principles of waiter work - attitude, knowledge and improvisation.

The looks are highly important, so care about your uniform and don't let an occasional food spot have an effect on your tip. In addition to this learn to do everything before the client asks.
