WiFi for coffee shops is as common as apple pie. The addiction people have for the Internet (and their laptops) has caused many businesses, including coffee shops, to change their marketing tactics in order to attract more customers and keep them coming back. Offering free WiFi access has been a great way for coffee shops to generate more profit while increasing the number of customers they serve. However, as with most things there are a few pros and cons when it comes to WiFi for coffee shops.

Of course the biggest perk that coffee shops see is a steady flow of business. There are millions of people that drink coffee every day. Once they find a place they like, chances are they will stick with it and frequent the coffee shop on a daily basis. Adding free WiFi into the equation also means drawing in coffee drinkers that own laptops. This feature gives them a chance to spend more time in the coffee shop to connect to the Internet for work or pleasure. The longer a customer spends in the coffee shop, the more likely they are to purchase more items, which mean more profit.

On the downside, sometimes WiFi for coffee ...
... shops means having customers that won't leave. Even though most people tend to spend a few minutes to an hour at a coffee shop, those with laptops can easily spend hours browsing the Internet—especially if they have nowhere else to be that day. This can lead to lack of space or seating for new customers, which can be bad for business.
