House Cleaning Like A Pro!
We can't all afford to have regular visits from house cleaning professionals. But every so often, it pays to give yourself a break and get someone in to give your house the once-over. Not only will it allow you some time to yourself, or to get on with other things, but also you can pick up a lot of useful tips that you can use yourself, just by watching their modus operandi!
For example, despite the plethora of home cleaning products on the market purporting to have specific purposes and claiming unbeatable results, sometimes the old ways are the best. Here are some traditional tips that home cleaning professionals swear by:
Ovens: Bicarbonate of soda is fabulously effective at removing baked-on grease and other foods. House cleaning companies use this all the time to save both money and time. Simply mix up a paste with water, cover the oven interior (including shelves, though you may find it easier to remove these first and do them in the kitchen sink) and leave to cut through the fat for a few hours (or at least one house). Then wipe over with a non-stick scourer or cloth, rinse in clean water and your oven will ...
... shine like new! To keep it that way, apply a fine paste of clean bicarbonate on the clean oven and it will protect it from fat sticking, making it much easier to clean the next time.
Windows: Ditch the lint-free cloths and kitchen towels - they hardly ever live up to their names. Instead, do as the home cleaning pros do, and clean windows with vinegar and newspaper. The glass comes up beautifully and the vinegar evaporates completely.
Carpet stains: Usually, it's best to try and deal with a spill or mark on a carpet as soon as it occurs. For red wine spills, cover with salt. This will absorb the wine and, once dry, the salt can be vacuumed up, lifting the mark with it. For white wine, soak up the excess with a cloth or kitchen towel, then use a damp cloth with a little detergent to remove the mark. For muddy footprints, however, try to leave the mud to dry before vacuuming. Attacking it with a damp cloth will simply work the dirt into the pile of the carpet. Old stains are usually best treated with a commercial, foam-based cleaner. Work the foam in towards the centre of the mark, to avoid spreading the stain, then vacuum once dry. For very dirty carpets, however, the most effective method is to have a home cleaning company clean the entire carpet, as this produces a much more even looking result.
It also pays to get the house cleaning professionals in once a year. This will give you a head start in your home cleaning, and a standard by which to judge your own house cleaning expertise. House cleaning is a chore at the best of times, so take the opportunity to get a few tips and watch the pros at work!
