In a consumerist perspective, freedom and power must be earned. Individuals need to work in order have purchasing power. Purchasing power endows them the freedom to choose commodities in the marketplace. Without monetary influence, one cannot experience freedom in a capitalist market. Hence, freedom comes at a price. Freedom is valuable, yet expensive.

The same is true when it comes to insurance plans. Insurance packages with higher premiums and deductibles offer more benefits to policyholders. In health insurance plans, high-premium plans include wellness programs in private fitness clubs. This is an exclusive offer for policyholders belonging to higher salary brackets. They have the capacity to pay costly deductibles to reach their lifetime maximum.

Frequently, insurance plans with high amount of deductibles are offered in individual health insurance packages. These plans are obtained by individuals who are unsatisfied with the benefit coverage of group health insurance plans. Group health insurance plans usually have a very limited network of providers. This narrows down choices of policyholders for hospitals ...
... and medical centers. Individual health insurance packages offer a wider range of network providers for patients.

In California, individual health insurance programs are given in two forms: preferred provider organization plans (PPOs) and health maintenance organization plans (HMOs). In Palm Springs, insurance companies do not require an individual to maintain primary care physician (PCP) for medical services. Insurance Palm Springs plans allow patients to choose a preferred medical center for hospitalization, as well as a private attending physician for consultation. This provision applies to both PPO and HMO health insurance plans.

Insurance Palm Springs PPO health plans permit policyholders to obtain medical services from other health agencies, aside from their network of providers. Nevertheless, a policyholder has to pay a specific amount from the total medical expenditures. This is called co-payment or coinsurance. Some insurance companies require about 20 to 25 percent co-payment from policyholders. This percentage proceeds to the doctor's fee and hospitalization fee.

Furthermore, HMO health plans are similar to PPO health plans, albeit they do not require co-payment for out-of-network medical services. In California, Insurance Palm Springs agencies offer lower premiums and deductibles for HMO health insurance package. In a nutshell, individual health insurance plans give patients the freedom to choose one's medical service provider, albeit at a high price.
