Outsourcing has become prevalent in carrying out business functions. Payroll service is one the most commonly outsourced business operations today. Companies frequently subcontract payroll services from private accounting firms. These accounting firms are composed of auditors and licensed accountants who handle payroll accounts. They also comply with state accounting laws in carrying out payroll functions.

Outsourced payroll services providers collect employee information from the company owner. For medium-scale and large-scale businesses, payroll specialists coordinate with managers and team leaders. They create information channels to keep track of employee attendance. In addition, they mail out employees' tax documents to government agencies and resolve inquiries relevant to accounting payroll. They calculate net wages by withholding federal tax and state income tax.

Furthermore, some private payroll service providers offer additional services to their clients. They manage benefit accounts of employees for health, life, and property insurance. In addition, they handle retirement accounts for old employees. These ...
... accounts are ordinarily handled by the human resource team. However, some private payroll specialists offer these services as an asset to their company services.

The idea of using independent payroll services was introduced in 1949. Earlier payroll processing companies use comptometer bookkeeping machines and electromechanical calculations. These tools calculate employee wage, as well as archive employee information and daily attendance.

Payroll service systems have evolved over time. Nowadays, most payroll processing companies use automated data processing (ADP) systems. ADP software uses computer technology to store employee files and records. It also uses computer programs to generate employee information relevant to the payroll system. This includes daily attendance, number of working hours, and incentives for extension of working time. The use of ADP lessens the amount of time and effort needed in compiling employee records and information.

Aside from the ADP system, one of the most widely used technologies for accounting is the internet. Payroll processing companies provide web-based payroll accounts to managers and team leaders. These online accounts enable managers to update relevant information in an instant. Web payroll services serve as an employee's time-keeper, an alternative to traditional cardboard timecards. Through this, payroll services of private accounting firms are performed in a more professional and efficient way.
