Pink fancy diamonds are prominent in news headlines this season, with the highly coveted blush or rose-colored fancy diamonds selling for record prices.

In Canada, a 10.11-carat pink fancy diamond set a national record when it was auctioned for $2.3 million - quite a bit higher than the previous record price paid for a gem at auction in Canada, $250,000.

One of the reasons pink fancy diamonds are so prevalent is that October is designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month - and diamonds are being donated to raise money for Pink Ribbon campaigns.
