How To Avoid The Stress Of Christmas Shopping
This Christmas and Holiday season, millions of Americans will be visiting stores, malls and supermarkets trying to find the perfect gifts for their loved ones or stocking up on food and drinks for festivities and special meals for loved ones. While the rush is great news for business owners and the companies which run malls and stores, it is bad news for the customer. Long lines, products sold out and high prices mean that Christmas shopping is a stressful and expensive experience. But how can we make this process easier and cheaper?
This article will aim to provide a series of tips to help you avoid the stress.
Tip One: Shop early! If you know what your friends and family like, why not buy their gifts before the rush starts? The end of October is the latest you will want to leave it. If you have the majority of your shopping done by the time November rolls around, you can save yourself a lot of stress. Dry food items and tinned goods can also be bought in advance, as well as frozen food. You can get a frozen turkey and simply defrost it when you are ready to make dinner!
Tip Two: Shop in teams! Take your partner, ...
... a friend or a family member with you and divide up your list. This saves time, and you can all buy the products separately and save a lot of stress. If you know your fashion and have a friend who is a technology expert, why not take over all the buying of clothes you want to give as gifts, and leave your friend in charge of consumer electronics. Even if there are long lines, it is more efficient to split the work.
Tip Three: Make a list and stick to it! It is always the smaller, impulse purchases which end up costing more. This is a tactic which stores use to make you spend money on things you didn't think you wanted! If you keep to your list, you may miss out on some pretty ribbons for packing or those delicious cookies they place next to the gifts, but you will definitely save money. If you are really tempted, make a note of the product and think about it for a few days. If you still want it when you next go shopping, put it on your list and indulge yourself - It is Christmas after all! But the chances are, you will realize you do not need the luxury items at all!
Tip Four: Shop online! Hate waiting in lines? Frustrated when you can't find the toy you want for your kids? Can't find a CD from your friend's favorite band? Stores get full of people, Mall parking lots are a nightmare and small shops run out of stock! Online stores have bigger warehouses, most even offer free shipping (sometimes only when you spend more than $25, or another amount) and you can normally save money. But be careful! Shopping online isn't always the best option - You should always try on shoes and clothes in real stores first! If you want to be sure you find the absolute cheapest prices, you can use a price comparison website like http://www.best-price.com to compare offers from various stores - It is like walking around a mall, but you can do it from the comfort of your home! Let the stores ship your products right to your door, put your feet up and you can invest the money you saved in a gift for yourself!
