A duplicate denture is a copy of a denture. That is if the denture teeth are worn, so will the duplicate denture teeth be worn. If there are holes in the original denture gums, the duplicate denture will also have these holes. While duplicate dentures are made with new materials, they are not brand new looking dentures as they are copies of an existing wearing denture.

Folks have the belief that duplicate dentures though inexpensive can be worn on a daily basis just like cheap or low cost dentures. Those who are deciding to get duplicate dentures need to know that they are made with lower quality materials than the cheapest denture available on the market.

Duplicate dentures are good to have for a temporary backup or emergency denture, but that is about it. The materials they are made out of cannot handle everyday use. Some folks who have used duplicate dentures on a daily basis have noticed their teeth have worn down to a very smooth surface. This is because both the duplicate dentures teeth and the gums of the duplicate denture are made with a cold pour acrylic material.

The material is soft and ...
... porous where the constant grinding of the teeth to chew food will wear down the teeth quickly. Those who enjoy drinking coffee, tea, or eat foods that can stain their regular dentures, should avoid using their duplicate dentures for this purpose. The reason is that the cold pour material when hardened is porous, and will absorb food stains much easier than that of regular dentures.

Dentures are usually made in two steps, first making the denture gums, and then placing manufactured denture teeth onto the denture one-by-one. The denture teeth is not made in a denture lab, but is purchased from a denture tooth manufacturing company where they specialize in making strong denture teeth that will not absorb food stains easily. The equipment to make real denture teeth costs thousands, and would not make sense for a denture repair business to purchase this equipment when making duplicate dentures.

If considering a duplicate dentures, please keep in mind one of the main reasons they are inexpensive is they are made for temporary uses. Should one have broken dentures, dentures that are broken must be repaired before a duplicate denture can be made.
