At this time in the year, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, and lightening storms threaten homes and lives all around the world. In luckier areas such disasters are not an issue. But no matter where you are you can not hide from the unsuspecting earthquake, or hard hitting lightening storm.

As the occurrences of natural disasters continues to rise every year (whether this is due to global warming or natural weather pattern changes) we can no longer ignore that action must be taken in order to protect our homes and loved ones.

Disaster Proof Your House from Earthquakes and Storms

Earthquakes: If your home is already built it will cost a lot of money to turn it into a more earthquake proof structure. But keep in mind that if you live on or near a fault line, such renovations are necessary. If you do not have the money or patience for this, you can at least limit the number of interior items that can fall on top of someone and cause harm. The best way to do this is to securely fasten everything in your home including clocks, pictures, mirrors, book shelves, dressers, cabinets, etc.

Storms: There are a ...
... number of actions you can take to protect your home from a vicious storm (such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and hail, thunder and lightning storms). For example: You can keep the trees trimmed around home windows so when the wind picks up you will have less threat of shattered glass. Always keep your rain gutters and downspouts clean from debris so they can minimize the water erosion to your home's foundation. You can also check your roof, walls and windows to make sure there are no leaks. If there are, have them repaired immediately.

If you live on a beach where tsunamis are a threat there is probably not much you can do to ensure your home's safety (besides having it raised on stilts). And, even if you try any of these suggestions there is no guarantee that your home will not be affected when a natural disaster strikes. Luckily, there are experienced professionals you can call to restore your home and valuables.
