Now I can call myself a veteran in the trade I am now engaged in, but ten years ago, when I came to the city from countryside, I didn??t know the first thing about how to win the trust of others. Now I can deal with my clients like an old hand and win their trust easily. They will trust me even I keep my mouth shut because my exterior ensures them that I am professional. However, back ten years ago when I came into the trade as a fledgling bird, I was totally ignorant of how important appearance is in business world. I had passion and tenacity, but still no client chose to entrust their transactions to me. I couldn??t figure out the reason until one day an old colleague pointed out where I went awry. He told me that my appearance tells others that I am a rustic who knows nothing and could do nothing. That is the reason why my clients knit their brows over me. He even cited an example that an elite businessman won??t thrust all his personal gadgets like purse, key chain and other things into pockets of his business suit like me. ... investing heavily on my personal appearance. I changed hairdo, ironed my suit tight, polished my leather shoes and above all, bought myself a new purse. The new purse is made of cowhide. It was well-made with exquisite patterns cut on its exterior. Now recalling back, it played a core role in my plan of re-shaping my overall profile. The attitude of clients proved that my efforts didn??t go down the drain. When I took out my purse with poise and paid the meal, I could feel the obvious change in their attitudes. After all, they are more willing to make deal with people of high social status while my purse proved my very social status in this sense. Now I am already an old hand, but the lesson I learned from the purse will be remembered forever.
