Seeing is a very sophisticated process. When you look at something, your pupils catch the light reflected by the object, and send it to the retina, which converts the light into electronic signals that are sent to the brain. The brain interprets these signals and forms an image accordingly. This all happens with such speed that the brain processes many images in just a second.

There are many myths surrounding the human eye. The most popular among these is the old belief that eating a lot of carrots helps keep the eyes healthy. Although carrots have high Vitamin A content which is good for the eye, it doesn't do much even if you eat a lot of carrots every day. Vitamin A is present in your average meals, so eating a balanced diet is just as good.

Another popular eye myth is that the eye problems of your parents will always be directly passed on to you. This statement is not true all of the time. Although many eye disorders are hereditary, frequent visits to your eye doctor can help decrease your chances of developing eye problems.

Mothers always advise their children not to sit too close to the TV to avoid ...
... developing bad eyesight. However, there is actually no proof that connects bad eyesight to sitting close to a TV. Eye doctors in Indianapolis believe sitting close to the television causes eye fatigue, but it does not directly affect to a person's eyesight.

Reading in dim light is also a common misconception; there is no evidence that proves that reading in dim light can cause permanent damage to the eyes. If you experience any difficulty in seeing after reading in dim light, then you should consult eye doctors. Indianapolis eye experts say that vision problems after reading in poor light conditions may be symptoms of a bigger disease.

Myths originate from the common need of people to create stories that can explain situations that they do not understand. Sometimes, patients would rather believe these myths than their doctor's expert advice. An Indianapolis eye doctor believes that people should depend on scientific facts instead of baseless rumors
