Global economic recession in the 21st century has resulted to a stark increase in the world's unemployment rate. In the United States, unemployment rate has reached 9.6%. Because of this, international organizations and state governments are taking the necessary steps to remedy the unemployment crisis.

Government agencies are coming up with improved economic policies to generate more jobs for the unemployed sector. They are also implementing stringent labor market policies to eliminate issues relevant to employment discrimination. Sociologists are trying to address the problems of discouraged workers which comprise a big percentage of the unemployed. Career experts create more intensive projects to assess job demands in the upcoming years for new graduates.

Most labor market policies involve skills development and training, opening of small and medium-scale enterprises, and entrepreneurship. There are two important key aspects in every labor market policy. These are improved employment service system and training programs.

In public employment service, the government ensures that the unemployed sector of ...
... the population is informed about recent job demands. Government agencies and private institutions create channels of communication with jobseekers through internet forums and open house job fairs. In some ways, these also boost discouraged workers to look for work despite past experiences of rejection in applications. The government also encourages private institutions to launch Return to Work Programs after recovering from crisis brought by the recession.

Many countries have already invested in developing their public employment service system. The Australian government has already invested $42 billion to create channels of information relevant to employment. In Canada, centers for employment service have extended their daily working hours to entertain all their applicants. In Cambodia and the Dominican Republic, the government has opened more regional job centers in the rural areas. In other countries, companies have already implemented Return to Work Program to bring back employees who have been laid off during organization downsizing.

Some enterprises have also invested in improving the skills of their employees for a better work performance. They launch training programs to enhance the managerial and technical expertise of their workforce. For those who want to return to work, program of various types is also initiated by many companies to bring back highly-skilled employees. These do not only aid in company recovery, but it also help beat the unemployment crisis.
