Platform scales might look like simple scales, but they are actually highly sophisticated devices. While it is true that they are basically comprised of two parts, the platform itself, and the display, there is actually quite a bit of technology that goes into the separate pieces. This is because the way platform scales are used require them to be precise, as they are most practical for industrial or manufacturing environments. This means that the essential product of a business is at stake. The Platform:

The profile of many platform scales is important too. It cannot be too high; otherwise it will be very cumbersome for those who have to haul heavy products on and off the scale. If your product is a herd of cattle, then you have to get each one to ‘step up’ onto the platform. This could end up taking a lot of time and effort. Additionally, some come with ramps on either side, so you don’t have to prod your livestock onto it, or, so you can just easily wheel your product onto the ramp.

The Display:
By far the most sophisticated part of a platform scale is the display. You might think it is just a digital read out of the products’ weight, but is far more than that. Platform scale displays can be integrated remotely with your business computer. That means it can weigh items, separate them into batches, remotely transmit the data right into an Access file or Excel spreadsheet, and send the said file to a printer. This makes keeping track of your product much easier and more efficient. You can even install protocols that would send results from up to ten scales to one computer, batching the results for you as you go along. Therefore, having a sophisticated platform scale at your business will actually do much more than just weigh your products for you.
