In present times students either of schools or colleges are the busiest ones and have enormous activities to do along with their studies in limited time. Students have to prepare huge amount of syllabus for their frequently held examinations and thus they don't get enough time to prepare the whole syllabus in proper details. For this purpose they have to adopt memory skills and speed reading techniques for a faster reading and learning process. These techniques comprise tools and strategies that have been developed after due consideration and practical uses and has proved useful in completing the syllabus in lesser time and yet in an effective way. These skills are focused in helping students to learn any particular lesson or piece of information in a speedy way without missing the important part of it.
There are many methods that have been developed to read faster amongst which most popular ones are chunking, skimming and sub-vocalization. For the vast syllabus in front of you, it's not possible ...
... to learn everything in it and so chunking helps in briefing it down. Chunking is basically the process of grouping verbal and written information efficiently to make it more logical, organized and consistent. It works on the principle that organized information is easier to learn and understand than a shattered one. Another speed reading technique is skimming which is used to quickly identify the main ideas of a text just like scanning. It consist speed that is three to four times faster than normal reading facilitated by moving the eyes down the page seeking only specific words and phrases.
Knowing how to speed read can really help you in completing your syllabus on time along with cutting down the burden. You can also try sub-vocalizing which is a method of silently pronouncing the word while reading thus allowing the reader to imagine the sound of the word as it is read. It helps the mind to access meanings to enable it to comprehend and remember what is read.
Most of the speed readers use a variety of methods to increase their speed and comprehension level as it is hard to read every word present on the page. Reading any text works half way through learning it as our minds can easily translate and mold words as per its convenience. This helps in time management for studies in our busy schedules and limited time period before exams.
