Six Considerations Prior To Altering The Website Design
Changing a website can have positive as well as negative effect on the efficiency of the website. Both aspects, especially the negative effect need to be considered before bringing any change in the website. The 6 key issues that need to be considered prior to website redesigning are as follows.
1. Justified Change:
The change in the website should be implemented after thorough study of its feasibility. Sudden and big changes in the website can irritate the visitors and this could be detrimental for the business. The change should be such as to facilitate the visitor and make the website easy for navigation. The redesign should not make the layout confusing for the visitor. Website redesign is considered a positive development by the search engines. The change should be thus justified and gradual.
2. Amendments to URL and page:
When the URL is changes or the page is relocated, all the status that it has created in the web world including the search engines is lost. When a URL is the outgoing link of another website, clicking on it should take the visitor to that page. If the destination of the URL is ...
... changed, the visitor's search will end up in no man's land. Moving the page from its current location can adversely affect the search engine optimization efforts. All the goodwill built up by the web page is lost. The best strategy to minimize the side effect of changes in URL and page relocation is to redirect the visitor and / or the search engines to the new location of that page. At times it is better to re-link the web pages instead of relocating them.
3. CSS file modification:
One can bring a large change in the appearance just by bringing amendments in the CSS file. This saves the effort to access each page and change it. CSS file modification replaces the hard work with smart work.
4. Appropriate Web Editor:
Website redesign also depends on the web editor that is used. There are two types of web editors; one is free web editors and the other is commercial editors. The difference between the two is that the commercial editors use latest tools for site management and are more technically equipped than the free web editors.
5. Effect of web redesign:
A website redesign can either increase or drop the traffic. It is always better to initially go for small changes, study the impact on the buyer and traffic, and then go for major changes (if found necessary). The slow changes give the website owner a chance to rectify if going in wrong direction.
6. Back up:
Expect the best but be prepared for the worst. This saying is apt for website redesigning too. It is always better to take the back up of the older pages before adding on or changing the current pages. If something goes drastically wrong one can fall back on the older pages if taken as a backup.
The above mentioned issues have a very big impact on the success of the website redesigning but usually it is experience and expertise of the website design company that plays a key role in the market.
