There are various different festivals organized on Phuket throughout the year and they are definitely worth visiting by tourists. Local Thai residents and travelers join together at these events and everybody has an unforgettable experience.
Please find below a list of different festivals which are organized every year on the island and which you should definitely visit if you are in this popular Thai holiday destination.
Phuket Vegetarian Festival
This spectacular happening is organized each year in the months of September or October and lasts just over a week. It is a celebration for the local Chinese community and they believe that it will help to remain in good health. The legend is that a Chinese opera group visited the island centuries ago and got very ill. They defeated the illness by going on a firm vegetarian diet.
Loy Kratong

Songkran
Songkran is the most popular festival on Phuket and throughout Thailand is normally held on the 13th, 14th and 15th of April each year. In Chiang Mai it is even organized for an entire week. Songkran is the Thai New Year celebration as they have a different calendar system that what is used in the west. During what can be described as a massive party, water is thrown onto everybody and white baby powder is also put on people’s faces.
Chinese New Year
Due to the large Chinese community on Phuket, the Chinese New Year celebrations are a big event every year. You will encounter a lot of spectacular fireworks and various local entertainment options. The best location to celebrate it is in the old historic section of Phuket Town.
Seafood Festival
Another great annual occurrence is the Seafood festival which is held every year to showcase and promote all the various different seafood which is caught in the Andaman Sea.
King’s Cup Regatta
This boat race which is held in honor of the Thai King is organized for an entire week in December every year and attracts yachts and crews from around the world. The crews and captains can often be found at night at the various bars along Bangla Road.
