Well, almost nothing. Far worse, in fact, is wearing nothing on your feet except the shoe. Your mother probably warned you that wearing shoes with no socks was liable to result in athlete's foot, and she was right! Sweaty feet and trainers or shoes that don't get washed regularly simply don't mix. Finally, be sure to buy your socks, whatever kind you buy, with a good percentage of naturally absorbent material. After all, the most important thing about socks is that they should absorb sweat, preventing athlete's foot and general discomfort. Modern materials can be a great boon in improving fit and stopping socks slipping, but they should only be used as a small part of the sock's overall makeup.
