Theme Parks - Does The Uk Still Have What It Takes?

With the arrival of new theme parks such as Harry Potter World in Orlando, we take a look through what England has to offer and whether it will ever be able to keep up.

It seems that new groundbreaking amusement parks are appearing all over the world annually, so we look at the UK's best attractions to see if we still have what it takes in comparison to the Theme Park phenomenons such as Disney World, Harry Potter World and the Japanese Roller Coaster which reaches speeds of over 100mph and has 14 inversions! Although we may not have these mega parks, we can still fight our corner with some of the favourites at places like Alton Towers and Drayton Manor, which also make for some fantastic days out. So we take a look through some of the scariest and fastest rides in the UK.

The Thrills:

One thing is for sure, the UK is known for its great range of Thrill Rides. Below are just three of the scariest rides in the country.

1) The Maelstrom. One of Drayton Manors scariest rides, this gyro swing spins you whilst you're swinging to a height of 22m and facing outwards all the while. It attracts thrill seekers ...
... from all over the UK and has been open since 2002. Do you think you have what it takes to face the Maelstrom?

2) Oblivion has been open since 1998 and was the world's first vertical drop rollercoaster and is still just as frightening today as it was 12 years ago! It may only last 76 seconds, but those seconds include a vertical drop of 20m into a black hole. It is the third fastest roller coaster in the UK and has a world renowned reputation.

3) Another one of Alton Towers 'world first' roller coasters is TH13TEEN, the “world's first freefall drop rollercoaster”. Only unveiled this year, it is Alton Towers newest ride and holds a big surprise for those who venture to ride it!

Water Rides:

We may not have the temperature that the water parks in America do, but we still have a great range of water rides that are bound to get the riders soaked to the core!

1) Congo River Rapids. Again an attraction at Alton towers these river rapids send the riders shooting down 625m of water rapids. Great fun for all the family and you are guaranteed to get at least a little bit wet!

2) Storm Force 10. Open now for over 10 years, this sends riders backwards down a 9m drop into a large pool of water, and is definitely guaranteed to get you soaking!

3) Finally the Tidal Wave at Thorpe Park. The country's tallest log flume will shoot you into a wave of water and you, and all the other riders, will be showered in the delightful water waiting at the bottom! A great attraction loved by many, but don't say we didn't warn you about the water!

So if you are worried that the UK's theme parks might not be quite up to scratch, worry no more because, as we have just stated, there are many great attractions placed all over the country. Don't take our word for it, go out and visit them yourself!
