Have you ever experienced receiving a call from someone who offers you to buy the latest model of a vacuum cleaner or to purchase a credit card package? In sales and business, this kind of strategy in selling products and services is what you call Telemarketing.

Telemarketing is a kind of direct selling in which companies call customers or consumers to sell their products or services. At other times, consumers call the companies to respond to product advertisements from e-mails and websites. There are also telemarketers who make a call to conduct a survey. Some companies find it convenient to have this marketing strategy in their business operations to help increase sales and to promote their products and services.

Some companies utilize rapid-dialing equipment and automated telephone machines to call consumers. Other firms use trained staff and sales persons to make the sales talk more convincing and effective. Frequently, telemarketers who make consumer response surveys use a script to draw only a small range of answers from the respondents. However, because of the anonymity of the person making the telemarketing, ...
... some use this as a scheme to rob money and properties from people.

There are a number of warning signs given to the public in order to avoid deception from these fraudulent telemarketers. A suspicious call center telemarketer may try to convince you to send money in exchange of a prize in a raffle promo or contest in which you have never been involved. Others may confuse you with fast talks and vague explanations, and may insist for you to purchase a product that is offered for a limited time.

In extreme instances, callers who disguise themselves as telemarketers from a call center firm may ask for your credit card number, bank account number or social security number. Worse, some may even offer to pick up your check at home or at the office after giving a proposal for the reparation of your credit history. When people like these call you - most especially in the wee hours of night - hesitate talking to them.

State and federal governments have already passed laws to protect the public from these fraudulent call center telemarketers. However, security from these scams lies in your hands. So when you notice a suspicious tone in the voice on the other line, put down your phone - a polite goodbye is not needed.
