Acute Back Pain Tips, Exercises For Low Backache
Acute low back pain is commonly encountered in primary care practice but the specific cause often cannot be identified. This ailment has a benign course in 90 percent of patients. Recurrences and functional limitations can be minimized with appropriate conservative management, including medications, physical therapy modalities, exercise and patient education.
Tips for Acute Back Pain
Get 8 hours of sleep!
Break the Surface
Pillows can help ease acute back pain by sleeping with a stack of these by your side. They should not be too soft or too hard to help you get a good night's rest.
Elevate to Rejuvenate
Tired back muscles spring from standing or sitting for long hours. It is better to raise your feet within waist level to avoid improper blood circulation.
Check the Vitamins
Your vitamin absence regularly leads to back pain. Arthritis needs a dose of Vitamin E to help cure acute back pain. Also take some Vitamin C to bring inflammation down.
Needle Pricking
Did you know that an oriental way of relieving pain is called Acupuncture? By sticking needles to ...
... your pressure points you can start living without saying ouch.
Slow Movements
Compared to rigorous and active exercising in the gym, Tai Chi, a form of slow motion exercise from China, decreases back pain by strengthening the muscles by increasing blood flow through proper breathing.
Painless Patches
When you cannot wait until the pain subsides in your lower back; there are patches that contain topical anesthetics to relieve you. They may smell weird but they provide warmth at the right place
Oil Cares
Use some efficascent oil during a massage. The deep kneading of the muscles with this oil can cure any pain.
Water Cures
Drink it, swim in it, press it against your back -- water happens to have ways to cure any kind of pain. Just remember to prioritize cold compress to bring down the swelling, use then hot compress to untangle knotted muscles.
Walk Barefoot
Once in a while; try to walk without shoes on. You could do this around your house to ease the tension brought about by cramped shoes or high heels.
BED REST
Bed rest provides no benefit to patients who have acute low back pain with or without sciatica. For nonspecific low back pain, there is strong evidence that advice to stay active rather than rest in bed results in less time missed from work, improved functional status, and less pain. For patients with sciatica, there is no difference in outcomes between staying active and resting in bed. If bed rest is necessary, it typically should last no longer than two or three days.
MASSAGE
Two systematic reviews found insufficient evidence to make a reliable recommendation regarding massage for acute low back pain. Massage therapy is considered safe and may be preferred by some patients.
EXERCISE THERAPY
Specific back exercises for patients with acute low back pain are not helpful. A meta-analysis of trials of structured exercise therapy compared with no exercise in patients with acute low back pain demonstrated no benefit with exercise programs. There was no improvement with exercise in short-, intermediate-, or long-term outcomes of pain relief or function.
