Hand Protection For Electrical Hazards

Protective gloves and other forms of protective hand equipment are generally used to protect the hands from scrapes, cuts, burns and other chemical, biological or electrical hazards. The basic aim is to minimize or avoid the damage that could be done to the hands, fingers, wrists and arms. Sometimes, using the correct hand protection can help save a life as well.
When protecting your hands, there a number of different types of gloves available and each of these varieties are used for different types of applications. To make it simple, the categories of glove applications include: chemical resistant, disposable, cut resistant and even specialty There are another group of gloves called the electrical insulating gloves. OSHA has made it compulsory for these gloves to be worn by workers, especially if the workers are required to be around high or low voltages in electric circuits.
While one would immediately think about using an electrical insulating glove, especially if one was a utility worker, it is important to fully understand the importance and applications of the different types of protective gloves. There is ...
... essentially a dire lack of awareness about the need for and importance of electrical safety products today, and most organizations have processes where a disaster is just waiting to happen. However, there are many products and resources that provide workers with adequate protection.
There are many types of electrical hazards, some of which are:
Electrical Shock
Arc Flash
Arc Blast
These are all hazards that may occur when working in close proximity to electric equipment. When an electrical current travels through a persons body, it causes damage to the internal as well as the external organs, and in many cases, death. However, the effect depends entirely on the amount of current that is flowing through the body. Effects can range anywhere from mild tingling sensations to even heart paralysis, and severe burns.
Rubber insulating gloves are the first line of protection against any electric lines. Other equipment includes: flame resistant clothing, insulated tools, dielectric footwear and rubber blankets. A good hard hat and protective eyewear are also extremely important.
Wearing the right kind of hand protection can save your life. So join a good safety training course and find out more about it.
