Cosmetic eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is a kind of cosmetic surgery procedure performed on the lower and upper eyelids. This surgery could be very risky as it is performed on the most delicate and sensitive part of the body, a slight mistake could not only disfigure your face but cause intense pain and discomfort.

A thorough research should be done by a person before he decides to have an eyelid operation. The procedure itself involves removal of excess fat and tissues from the eyelids to prevent sagging and bagginess which comes with age. The muscles and tendons around the eyes are then reinforced to make them tight and bring back the youthful and fresh look to an extent. It should however be noted that it does not affect dark circles or wrinkles around the eyes also known as crow's feet, sagging of the brow is also not corrected in this procedure.

Prior to the surgery you should inform your surgeon about any medical condition you may have like blood pressure, dry eyes or if you wear contacts or consume anticoagulants. Smoking and alcohol are to be avoided for a period of ten days before and after the ...
... operation.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is beneficial for those who have wrinkled drooping skin of the upper eyelids or bags and puffiness under the eyes. If the upper eyelid sags so much as to protrude over the eyelashes it may cause loss of peripheral vision!

Risks post operation could include painful and sensitive eyes for about two days, blurred or hazy vision for a few days, tear glands and tear production could be affected temporarily or permanently causing dry eyes, eyelashes may fall off after the surgery and grow back later but in some cases the loss is permanent. One may also experience some trouble in closing the eyes if the skin is pulled too tight, eyelids could also protrude outward and would need a corrective surgery. Scarring is another concern, these are some important facts to be thought of before an eyelid surgery.
