Most people go to Panama City Beach for a relaxing vacation away from the stress of work. Newly married couples also travel to the beautiful romantic place for their honeymoon. Everybody wants to spend their holiday in one of the world's top tourist destinations. However, would you believe that hunters also go to Panama City Beach to search for century-old treasures?
In the 1800's, Panama City Beach was home to Native Americans. During those times, pirates strolled along the region's pristine shorelines while waiting for ships carrying valuable goods and spices en route to Spain or Mexico. Petty combats between the pirates and merchants erupted when pirate raids were met with resistance. Because of this, it is said that there are many pirate-hoarded treasures that were buried in Panama City Beach.
Legend tells that there are several treasures entombed at the Spanish Shanty Point in the Shell Island. In 1960's, a 700-pound cannon and an old Spanish galleon were recovered from a motel site. This strengthened the speculations of hunters about precious treasures from almost a couple of centuries ago that may be hidden ...
... behind the alluring beauty of the Panama City Beach.
Several groups continue to search for these treasures - from the fine, white sands of the beach to the placid ocean waves. Unbeknownst to many, vacation rentals in Panama City Beach, Florida are also leased by these treasure-hunters who come to the region every now and then. Among the sought-after treasures are pre-Columbian artifacts such as ceramics, metal, textiles, leather, bone, and stone objects.
Treasure-hunting is strictly prohibited by the state. A law mandates that anyone who finds an artifact must return it to the Panama government. However, the state finds it difficult to trace any artifacts because the objects are scattered around the place. And with the surge of vacation rentals in Panama City Beach, Florida during vacation season, many tourists are not aware of the treasure-rich history of the state.
Do you have reservations for vacation rentals in Panama City Beach, Florida? If you do, check out the rich history of the place during your stay. You just might find a pirate treasure from centuries ago.
