Truly stupendous and God's own country- Kerala is appreciated not only by its native and Indians, but the foreigners as well. Once I happened to travel in a train where I met these people from West Africa, Nigeria told me that the first city in India that they ever visited and always wanted to was Kerala.

Now, it is obvious that besides all the cultural and the historical reasons attached to visiting Kerala, its climate is one of the major reasons for the people to choose Kerala as the hot spot for the vacations. It is located on the extreme tip of the Southern Indian sub-continent and lies between Lakshwadeep Sea and Western Ghats. This article is mainly to concentrate on the climate of Kerala to make it easy for you the next time you plan to visit Kerala and do the backpacking accordingly:

Temperature:

Kerala has a varied set of climatic condition that is it differs in different parts of the state. On one hand, where the highlands enjoy up to 20 centigrade, the coastal and the plains have a temperature from 28 to 32 degrees centigrade.

The Rainfall:

The average rainfall in the state of Kerala ...
... is comparatively higher and a fairly good annual rainfall from 1250 to 5000 mm. On an average, 120 to 140 days are minimum number of days to receive rainfall in a year.

The climatic conditions in Kerala are available to be classified in the following manner:

Summer: end of February till May- the months that enjoy the summers with occasional rainfalls and thunder and lightning.

Did you know that Kottayam is the town to record the highest rainfall during the summers?

South West Monsoon: starting from the latter May till September, Vaithiri-Kuttiyadi range in Malabar and Peerumedu in Idukki are the areas that receive the maximum rainfall and are really loved to be visited by people.

North East Monsoon: the month of October and the end of December witness heavy afternoon rains along with thunder and lightning. It is one of the major attractions of the season. The warm and humid days do not lay much difference in the temperatures.

The variation in the climatic condition of Kerala has always been a magnet to attract a lot of tourist from various parts of the world. It makes it worth calling God's own country and the pleasant weather throughout the year makes it a heaven for the travelers.
