Mole Scar Treatment
Mole scar removal procedures are painless with some side effects and scarring that will naturally reduce over time.
Excision with stitches is the most common procedure for removing skin moles. It involves cutting out the mole, stitching it up and leaving it to heal on its own. The surgery will leave a scar ...
... but it will fade with time. This procedure is usually performed on moles that are flat, smooth, large, or abnormal, which have a possibility for being malignant.
Excision with cauterization is a procedure that burns the mole off close to the skin. Cauterization helps stop the bleeding, prevents infection and will leave less scarring.
Shave biopsy is done when the mole is above the surface of the skin. The area is numbed with a local anesthetic and the portion of the mole that is above the skin is shaved to the skin itself with a scalpel.
Laser therapy is a concentrated beam of light that is directed at the mole to destroy the cells. It is not the most effective treatment for mole removal but it does leave less scarring than many of the other options.
Cryosurgery is a liquid nitrogen solution that is circulated into the mole in order to bring temperature down very low, destroying the cells.
These procedures will leave some scarring, but creams and sunscreen will help reduce the effect.
Scar Removal Costs
Mole scar removal costs vary depending upon the procedure performed, but will range from $50 to $200. Doctor’s fees will also vary depending on location. The total cost will be obtained during consultation with a cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist. Most medical insurances do not cover this type of scar removal treatment because it is under the category of cosmetic surgery.
If you have a mole, birthmark, or any brown spot that changes, call your dermatologists and make an appointment.
