In fact, it is almost a certainty that the hundreds to thousands of dollars that you’ve spent on that gorgeous new webpage will earn you back next to nothing. This simple analogy explains exactly what search engine optimization is all about. If a potential customer is looking for a product or service you provide, but your gorgeous webpage is on the 5th page of Google results, chances are that he will never find you. Your aesthetically perfect website just became a huge waste of money. In contrast, compare that to #1 website in the search rankings for that specific keyword and you can see the point I’m trying to make here. It doesn’t even matter if the #1 ranked website isn’t as beautiful as yours. It can be a simple looking page that is easily navigable and functional. The fact of the matter is that the extremely high advantage that webpage has over yours in terms of traffic and visitor count will allow it to make much more money than your website can.

No matter how beautiful a website is, it’s not going to help if no one ever sees it. Similar to how a store in the real world works, traffic is the key to success. This is where search engine optimization comes in. Search engine optimization is the process of getting your website higher up in the rankings in the organic search results. It works by getting the content of your website focused on the keywords which are most important to you. Furthermore, off-page optimization is constantly done to increase your sites popularity. Together, these actions will trigger a surge in your search engine rankings and give your website far greater exposure. Done right, search engine optimization can even give you top 3 results in Google for keywords which are extremely relevant to your business. Needless to say, such an outcome would easily pay for its own cost and every sensible business owner should seriously give this some thought.
