When any person plans to open up online small business, they would be over-crowded with suggestions and tips from almost everyone they know and all websites on the internet. However only few sources have the perfect idea about how you should go about marketing your company. Hence few suggestions from such resources are of no help to your business.
People have the habit and take pride in DIY (Do It Yourself) tasks like car repair, carpeting, typing, etc. Small business owners apply the similar concept to the website designing and development. They are under the impression that their site is on small scale so they can themselves do the designing, marketing, logo designing, content development, etc. Branding and marketing a business should be done by a professional and skilled person. You might save on some money by designing ads and logos, but the end product would be unprofessional image that can back off the customers.

Generally this concept does not work because in very rare circumstances large audiences are the targeted customers. Here you spend hefty sum of money yet outcome is not so bright. Second myth that companies keep is, if they have wider range of products more customers would come to them. On the contrary customers would get confused.
Keeping good quality of product is necessary to sustain, but such product is also of no use if they do not reach the target audience or if it's of no use to them. So it is important to deliver customers the product they need, otherwise all your marketing efforts would result in vain.
Marketing and online branding is a continuous process and not a onetime investment. A brand needs to be refreshed on regular basis and marketing plan also needs to be revamped according to the market.
