Fang thinks Bosco has really lost his mind, again! Bosco is planning to do an online newsletter. Fang thinks the Internet is a passing fad. Remember years ago when folks thought the automobile and TV were "passing fads"? Well, Fang has an Edsel, so you see where he's coming from! Anyway, Bosco thinks it is a great idea! He sees others doing it, why can't Bosco? Here is how their conversation went the other day: Bosco: "Welcome back over, Fang. Like I said last week, you could come back over to get the rest of the details on the newsletter I'm thinking of doing." "Like I also said before, those online courses I bought have tons of good information in them. There are new folks out there on the internet who need direction, and help making sense of it, and then making money on the 'net." "One of my favorites is found at http://1st-Steps-2-Success.com/true_wealth.htm that has tons of info to help folks." Fang: "Well, like I thought last week, you're nuts to even think you can even do a newsletter. You're no writer, Bosco!" Bosco: "I know. But I can share what I've ...
... learned from the courses and my experience on the 'net. Let me tell you how I set up my newsletter now." After Bosco found a template he liked, he started to change it. Using a simple HTML tool like PowerHTML found at http://www.tucows.com/preview/194622.html , he could change the colored text to his own. The template and his text could then be checked as he went with this program. If he needed HTML help he found several sites helpful. One of the best was Case Western Reserve University's Introduction to HTML, located at http://www.cwru.edu/help/introHTML/toc.html which had basic commands he neeed for his new site. After Bosco signed up for a web host, looking through Web Host Directory at http://www.webhostdir.com/ and CompareWebHosts.com at
http://www.comparewebhosts.com , he needed an FTP program to upload his several site pages making up his new website. A free ftp program called FreeFTP at http://brandyware.com/free.htm fit his needs perfectly. It was easy to use and the price was right! Bosco used it to upload the several pages required for his site. The excitement of uploading his site made Bosco feel like a proud new papa! His site on the 'net! Now that he had his site up, he needed a template for his newsletter. He found a good one at
http://developyourwebsiteandyourself.com/ezrc/eztemplate.htm and figured it would evolve over the next few months. His personality would dictate how it changed, as he "branded" or put his "mark" on his newsletter. He would be a distinct newsletter out there in cyberspace, not a run of the mill "generic" newsletter. So he filled in the different areas in the template. It was easy and fun. He had signed up with several "ads for subscribers" programs to get subscribers. He signed them up to his newsletter and used the ads sent with their email addresses. He used email links so folks could send him ads and could subscribe. On the end of his Webmaster e-mail address, provided free by his host server, he used this: .com?subject=Subscribe Folks could subscribe to his newsletter this way. And this for them to unsubscribe from his newsletter: ?subject=UnSubscribe . He used a HTML link for folks who had different setups for email and URL's like AOL and other systems. a href= Webmaster@"his ISP".com?subject=UnSub AOL/a Finally, he used a program to send out his newsletter like Group Mail Plus, MailMaster, or Eudora found on search engines. Bosco: "So there it is. What do you think, Fang?" Fang: "I still think you're nuts! Bosco: Oh well, see you at the bank!"
