Pit bikes are a kind of bike that is traditionally used for travelling between pits on race tracks. They are smaller in size than a traditional bike and can also be referred to as a mini moto. They are popular with people of all ages today as a fun and portable alternative to motorcycles. They can easily be lifted up and transported by all kinds of people. They can fit in the back of a decent sized car, and if kept clean can even be kept indoors.

When this is compared with owning a full sized bike, pit bikes can be seen as a wonderful alternative. If you imagine trying to store a fully sized motorcycle indoors or even transporting one to a race track when all you have is a car and no trailer - the choice is clearly in favour of pit bikes.

Starting out

Starting life in the 1960's, the pit bike has gone through many different forms and styles before we landed upon the current, refined design. The cheap and well crafted modern day style is perfect for all people, costing far less than a traditional bike.

These vehicles can vary in power rating from something as small as a 5HP engine, to approximately ...
... 20HP engine size. The engines in these bikes are generally high revving, which allows for speedy acceleration, but hinders the ultimate top speed of the bike.

The small size of such bikes, combined with the option for low powered models, makes pit bikes ideal for younger people or children to use. They can be used in a non public area, such as a private field, so that they are used legally. In addition, this will make the risk of injury far less for such inexperienced drivers. One should always supervise children when operating vehicles, regardless of their power output, because they are still essentially vehicles with engines.

Various types

There are many different types of bike that one can buy, and you should take a great deal of care and consideration when choosing a pit bike. Pit bikes can be used for fun, or for more serious pursuits, such as race events; depending on the purpose, a pit bike can vary greatly in power and style. A track event bike will have to be generally more high powered than a simple bike that is just for fun. But the more powerful that a bike is, the more it will cost to purchase as well as refuel.

There are however benefits to having a high cost bike, as parts and manufacturing will generally be of a much higher standard. In addition, the parts used will be more adverse to wear and breakages, and so will theoretically last longer than those on a cheaper model.
