Radial Arm Drills
Radial arm drills have several practical applications, mainly relating to the commercial use of drilling large pieces of material or equipment. There are several different sizes and types of drills depending on the specific job that needs to be completed. The drills range from small drills that can sit on a turntable or a workbench to large drills that sit on the floor and takes up a large area in a shop. The drill originated in the early 20th century in the 20’s for commercial use. The main function was woodwork, and it later expanded to metals and a wide variety of other materials. One of the greatest advantages of using these drills is the high level of precision. The drills will last for several decades if maintained properly and even with the older drills they still had a high level of accuracy.
In general radial arm drills can take on a broad range of task with the size of the size of the hole to be drilled, which can range up to several inches in diameter. The manufacturers have changed over the years but there are still a great number of them still out them including new quality brands in various ...
... countries. It is important to remember that when selecting a drill, there will be several different options and features to consider like laser guided drills and safety systems to protect users.
There has been great advancement in drill technology over the years to add new features, giving an overall better-quality finished product. Some of the newer drills incorporate laser precision along with other new innovative features. A new feature added to radial arm drills has been the integration of a coolant system to keep the materials from becoming too hot, discolored, or even in some cases catching fire. By using a cooling system to keep materials at a lower temperature, you will end up with a better quality product that can also be produced much faster.
Also built into the newer drills are safety systems to protect workers from work place accidents caused by drills that don’t stop automatically when something has gone wrong while working. The newer features are not that much more costly because producing the drills has become much cheaper over the years. These features save employers from having to pay for medical bills from accidents caused by the drills. Different types of clamps and other swivels have been added to the drills to give them a greater range of flexibility to be used in different positions that have not been accessible in the past. The drills are generally safe to use, provided the user has been properly trained on how to operate the device. With all machinery, including radial arm drills, there needs to be a high level of alertness and care that is taken during operation.
