So many people worry about credit cards on a daily basisâ€and with good reason. What if they don’t pay their bills on time, what if the interest goes up, what if….
There are so many ‘what if’s’ when it comes to credit cards that committing to one with a large spending limit really does scare the user. So, just how do you determine what is credit card charge off and when to worry?
First things firstâ€don’t let the words “credit card charge off” scare you. It is simply a description of an action that a credit card company is taking in regards to your account.
True, this action will occur after a number of months of non-payment, but this does not mean that you are a bad person, or that you have anything to worry about. When a charge-off happens, a company is simply taking the account off of its own books.
Before you get the wrong idea of the account being taken off the booksâ€no, the credit card company is not going to forget about you. What they are simply ...
... doing is an accounting strategy that is necessary for them to balance their own books on a yearly basis.
However, the credit card company will send your account to someone who makes attempts to collect on your account. This is when consumers start to get worried.
So how do you know what is credit card charge off and when should you worry? Well, truthfully what any consumer should do is accept that there will be consequences to the fact that their credit card has been written off.
Worry only makes a person ill and blows things out of proportion. Take the time to understand just how far the creditors can go in your location. There are limits in each state as to what they can do to collect from you.
When creditors want to collect from you, they have to follow specific rules to do so, and even though you signed an agreement saying that you would pay, harassment is not part of the deal. Take the time to talk to them, and try to work out a deal.
Most creditors are willing to work something out with you in order to recoup any part of their money that they canâ€if you work with them. Even if they still charge off your account it is not the end of the world.
You will simply have to spend time rebuilding your credit profile and work out a plan to pay back the creditor. One thing that you must remember when dealing with creditors and charge offs is to not let them bully you into doing something that you are not capable of living up to.
Knowing when to worry is one thing. To truly understand what is credit card charge off and how to cope with your current situation that takes time, understanding and research. Stand up, face your creditors, and dont be afraid.
